Our Commitment
What you share helps us build that understanding.
Not what clinical trials capture. Not what a 15 minute appointment reveals. What living with a condition actually looks like — the questions between visits, the side effects nobody warned about, the patterns that only emerge over time.
That understanding is what mama health is built to create. And it only exists because patients choose to share their experiences with us.
This page explains how we treat that trust.
What we believe
Understanding patients is the foundation of better care. The healthcare system makes decisions about people with chronic conditions every day. Treatment guidelines, drug development, patient programs, care pathways. Most of these decisions are built on limited data: small studies, clinical trials with controlled conditions, or claims data that shows what happened but not why. mama health believes that better decisions start with understanding what patients actually experience — in their own words, in their daily lives, at every stage of their condition.
Patients should benefit first. mama health exists to serve patients. The app was built for them. Every feature, every answer, every improvement is designed to help people better understand their condition before, after, and between every doctor visit. Any other use of patient experience data is secondary to this. Patients are not a data source. They are the reason mama health exists.
Sharing should be a choice, not a transaction. Patients share their experiences on mama health because the app helps them. Not because we ask them to. Not because we incentivize them. Not because they're part of a study. The understanding mama health generates is a byproduct of genuinely serving patients well enough that they choose to engage honestly. That honesty is what makes the understanding valuable. And it only continues if we earn it.
Transparency is not optional. If patients share their experiences with us, they deserve to know exactly what happens with that information. Not buried in terms and conditions. Not hidden behind legal language. Clearly, simply, and honestly.
What happens with your experience
Your experience on mama health helps in three ways:
- First, it helps you. The app gets smarter about your specific situation over time.
- Second, it helps other patients. Your experience, anonymized and stripped of anything personally identifiable, contributes to the information mama health uses to help the next person with the same condition. When someone asks "is this side effect normal?" the answer is better because patients before them shared what they went through.
- Third, it helps improve care more broadly. The anonymized, structured understanding that mama health builds from patient experiences is made available through a separate partner platform. Life science companies and researchers use these insights to make better decisions about treatments, care programs, and research. They see patterns and trends across conditions. They never see you.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal data. Ever.
- We do not share anything that can identify you as an individual. With anyone.
- We do not use your data in ways you haven't consented to.
- We do not allow life science companies or researchers to access your individual experiences. They only receive anonymized, aggregated insights.
- We do not position patients as a data source. The app serves patients. The understanding follows.
How we protect you
Trust isn't built on promises. It's built on how things actually work. Here's how mama health protects you:
- Anonymization. Before any patient experience is used beyond your own personalized app experience, it is anonymized. This means all personally identifiable information is removed. No name, no location, no contact details, no way to connect an insight back to a specific person.
- Separation. The patient app and the partner platform are separate products. A patient never sees the partner platform. A life science company never sees the patient app. The only thing that connects them is anonymized, structured understanding.
- Control. You can delete your account and your data at any time. No questions. No barriers. Email support@mamahealth.com and it's done.
- Medical review. All information provided through mama health is checked against trusted medical sources, and response quality is continuously monitored by our medical team. mama health does not diagnose, treat, or replace your doctor. It helps you better understand your condition between visits.
Why this matters
Chronic conditions affect hundreds of millions of people worldwide. Most of them spend the vast majority of their time managing their condition outside of doctor visits — with limited tools, limited information, and limited understanding of what they're going through.
mama health was built to change that. To give patients the understanding they need between appointments. And to take the collective, anonymized understanding that emerges from those experiences and make it available to the people building the next generation of care.
Better care starts with understanding patients. What you share helps us build that understanding. And we commit to protecting, respecting, and being transparent about every part of that process.
Our principles
1. Patients come first. Every decision about the product, the data, and the business is evaluated against one question: does this serve patients? If the answer is no, we don't do it.
2. Understanding is the mission. We don't build features for the sake of features. We don't collect data for the sake of data. Everything mama health does is in service of understanding what patients actually go through — and turning that understanding into something useful for them and for care.
3. Transparency is the standard. Patients should know what happens with their experiences. This page is our commitment to explaining it clearly. If our practices change, this page will change with them.
4. Privacy is structural, not optional. Anonymization and data separation are built into the architecture of mama health. They are not policies that can be overridden. They are how the system works.5. Trust is earned continuously. We don't assume trust. We earn it every time a patient uses the app, every time we handle their data responsibly, and every time we're honest about what we do and why. The moment we stop earning it is the moment the understanding stops.
European built. European protected
mama health is built and headquartered in Berlin, Germany. All data is stored on servers in Germany under some of the strictest data protection laws in the world, including GDPR. We chose to build in Europe because we believe patient data deserves the highest standard of protection, not the minimum. European sovereignty isn't just a regulatory checkbox for us. It's a deliberate decision about how we treat the people who trust us.
A note from our founders
mama health started with a simple realization: the healthcare system knows a lot about diseases but very little about what it's actually like to live with one. Understanding that gap is what brought us together. Closing it is what keeps us going.
A final word
We know that asking someone living with a chronic condition to share their experience is asking for their trust. We don't take that lightly. Every decision we make about the product, the data, the partnerships is measured against whether it honors that trust.
Understanding patients. That's the commitment.
